Excellent Weekend in Lafitte!
Well we finally got the weather to settle down this weekend, and I got to tell those who didn't make it out this weekend, it was BEAUTIFUL! Wish everyday could be that way, comfortable temps, very light wind, clean water, great crews, and the fish wish cooperating. This weekend our guides, as well as myself ventured south in search of some clear, salty water. After an enjoyable 35 minute ride we arrived at our destination to find shrimp and mullet popping all over the surface. It only took a cast or two, and the first trout landed on ice. For the next several hours all boats made a few drifts on some current lines, and under bird patches landing fish after fish. We were fishing with the Lafitte Speckinator, H&H White beetles, fished about 16-20 inches under a cork, and caught a few tight lining avocado and pearl cocahoes. Capt Joe had the Murdoff party, Capt. Barry and I had the Cuevas party from Mississippi. The shrimp are moving in and the trout are right behind them. Over 200 trout and 9 reds landed between the three boats. One of Capt. Barry's guest boated a 30# plus bull red, Beetles under a cork for the trout and spinner baits for the reds. After very rough conditions Friday, Saturday turned out to be a much better day for the Hahn's. Left Victoria Inn's dock at 7am sharp. It didn't take long to put the first red in the boat but for the next few hours it was a challenge. Around 11 am the fish seemed to turn on and they managed to land several keepers and a half dozen throw backs. We didn't try for trout, but picked up a few along the way. They only kept one 16" trout and one 17" red for dinner at Victoria Inn's restaurant. Spinner baits on power pro line is all we used. The weather forecast is looking great the rest of this week, calling for light winds, which means great fishing, inshore, and offshore, so sneak away from work and give us a call, we have a couple boats open this week. As Always, Thanks!

As the Wind BLOWS!!
Will this wind down south ever quit blowing? For the past 2 months, myself and our guides, and the rest of Louisiana anglers have been dealing with blustery winds, dirty water, drastic temp. changes. One day the wind blow 20+ out the south, which brings all the water in, and then the next day, it will blow 20+ out of the north pushing all of the water out. The area lakes and bays are like a turbulent washing machine that doesn't know what to do with itself. With all that being said, we are still catching fish. As hard to believe as that might sound, fishing in Lafitte offers anglers spots to fish when the weather does not cooperate. On the high wind, high water days, we can get deep into the marsh, and toss spinner baits and gold spoons in front of redfish, and they are eager to bite and hungry. On windy, low water days, we have canals that run deep in the marsh that will have 4-7 feet of water in them, and all the fish come out of the ponds and feed in the canals. Usually some market shrimp on the bottom or under a cork will catch them every time. I myself would love to get out and start hammering the trout. I know they are out there, we just can't get near them. Once the wind decides to blow itself out, it should be easy picking from Lafitte to Grand Isle out in Barataria Bay, Hackberry, and Grand Bayou. Until then, redfish is the ticket, and believe me, we are more than happy to get after them, day after day.
On Friday I had the Willard family, in town for a bachelor party. They kept only enough fish for lunch at Jan's. Sunday Capt. Barry had the Dreher party. The water had dropped almost a foot from the north winds but they fished hard to put some reds in the boat. Spinner baits and shrimp under a cork was the only baits used. Out the next several days, will post reports thru the week. Check out the Bald Eagle below. We have been seeing regularly.
As Always, Thanks!

Fishing down in Lafitte is currently good, and getting better every day. We are starting to work our way slowly towards our summer patterns. Soon the shrimp we be popping all over the place, and the speckled trout will start going crazy. Redfish has been good. With higher, and cleaner water in the ponds to the SW and SE sides of the bayou. We haven't been catching any huge fish, but many in the 5-7 pound range. Saturday I had Gary and Debbie from Texas. Sunday, I had Allison, John and Dennis, a local group, and finally on Monday, I had Scott and Thomas from New York, who fished with a buddy Frank from Mississippi. Fished the marsh all three days for redfish and had a few trout each day. All fish caught on spinners with H&H cocahoes, Blk/chart, smoke/chart and purple/chart. The trout bite has just been too unpredictable for us the last couple weeks, with the windy weather, and dirty water, so its been mostly redfish and a few great bass trips. But the trout bite should get consistent in the near future, with the warming weather, and an influx of shrimp, end of the month should be great.
As Always, Thanks!

Yesterday evening, Ed, Brent and Wayne were in town for a conference and could only do a short afternoon trip. Asked them to meet me at the dock at 1245pm, and we left the dock at 1pm and headed out for a very brief 4 hour trip. With limited time, strong winds, and high tide, I knew where I needed to go. Off to the ponds. We made our way through the winding marsh, then I ducked off on a canal that usually holds some deeper water. About 500 yards down the canal they had a cut dumping gorgeous pond water into the canal. Pulled up, set anchor, and out the baits went. Within seconds, the first cork dunked, and it was fish on. Nice 5 pound red. For the next 3 hours we were on a nice bite of easy, relaxing fishing. Ended the short trip with 18 reds, 3 sheepshead, 3 drum and 1 catfish, of which, all were released. Not a bad trip fishing that time span, plus 20mph winds. All fish caught on shrimp under a cork at anchor. Out again right now.
As Always, Thanks!

Great Day in Lafitte!
The last time John and Larry were here was in January when we had the coldest two days that we have had in 5 years. The first day we couldn''t even fish because they didn''t have enough clothes, and that is saying something with two guys coming from New York. Today that wasn''t the problem. We left the dock at Victoria Inn just a little before 7am. The only thing I was worried about was finding clean water. The first area was ok, and fishable, but only produced small fish. Our second stop was the gold mine, or should I say silver mine. The trout today were the largest I''ve seen in a while. They had their easy limit of 50 fish from 15 to 21 inches and more. By the time we quit we were releasing quality keeper trout for tomorrow, hopefully they will still be around. Bait of the day was glow beetles under a cork, but the bigger fish were caught on H&H cocahoes on the bottom. Out again tomorrow with the same guys. As Always, Thanks!

Lafitte Weekend Report
This weekend we had a little bit of good, and some bad with the tough weather conditions. On Saturday we had the Nathan Diller party and the Chris Sisson party. I knew that the fishing would be tough after 45 mph winds and a 30 degree drop in temperature late Friday, but off we went. The crews fished really hard in the tough conditions and we finished the day with 70 trout between three boats, and caught everything under a cork. On Sunday I had my last day with Tim and Bill from Canada. These were some nice guys that really know how to fish. The first 2 days we spanked the trout, and then on the final day, they realized how bad fishing can be when mother nature is not on your side. We traveled over 100 miles and found no clean water on either side of the Barataria waterway. We ended up fishing a couple of dead ends in Texaco that had fair water, only catching a couple of trout, a couple of bass and one red. Its great when we can write reports about all the fish we catch, but no matter what you know, or how good of a fisherman you think you are, we all know that days like today, make you really appreciate the good days. The guys did have two out of three good days and are looking forward to their next trip. Got plenty trips this week, with improving weather, so the trout should be right where we left them, so check back for updates. See you on the water.
As Always, Thanks!

Another great day on the water yesterday. We fished two groups out of the Victoria Inn, Capt. Barry had the Tutt party and I had Bill and Tim for their second day. Both boats easily limited out on trout again, and a couple reds thrown in. Capt. Barry''''s group only kept enough for lunch for them, him, and I. We counted 50 keepers on the clicker at 9:30 and headed out to find a couple of reds. Bill and Tim have been here for 4 days eating nothing but seafood. Today they wanted a burger so all our trout were released, keeping the two keeper reds for the couple on Barry''''s boat. Bait of the day, glow beetles under a cork, what else. After two great days of fishing, and a postponement today, the next couple of days aren''''t looking good, but we''''ll be out Saturday and Sunday making the best of it. With the change in wind direction, strength, and temps, the NW''''er is gonna kill the area we have been fishing. Got some other spots that have been holding fish, so we will see what happens.
As Always, Thanks!

Trout Action HOT in Lafitte!
Trout slam and I mean a slam, today was just one of those days. Three boats out today, Capt. Mike, Capt. Barry and I. They left the dock around 7:15, I was 30 minutes behind. Barry and Mike had the David Wells party of 7 guys. I had Tim and Bill from Canada who are fishing with me tomorrow and Sunday. The fishing today was as good as it gets, they had a 175 trout limit early, and my guys only kept 5 of the 60 plus they caught. Just enough for lunch at Jan''s. By the time I returned they had cleaned probably half of their fish so this picture is short of those numbers. Beetles under a cork was the killer bait for the day. Perfect day at the office. Great weather, fisherman, and fishing! Out again tomorrow.
As Always, Thanks!

Thanks! If i'm in that area I will definitely try it out. I been paddlin' my canoe around the bayous and sloughs mostly, sometimes bank fishin' around here in Livingston Parish. The best luck I'm havin' at all is in the bends where its deep and with a slow current. I just went to a spot on blind river this evening and had no luck from the bank. I'm thinkin' maybe next trip I'll bring the canoe and see what I can find a ways down where there's alot of brush. The water is pretty clear so maybe I'll try a throwin' a jelly worm or two. I got a feelin' about it, maybe grandpa bluecat will show up with the welcoming commitee??? Well I hope so! Happy Fishin' and thanks for the info. Good day.

If you have a small boat that is trailerable, pull it down to Bayou Segnette in Westwego. I heard they are killing the sac-a-lait, perch, and bass minutes from the launch near the old airport canals. Hope this helps.

Lafitte Fishing Report
Just a fun morning on the water, when I woke up this morning and saw all the clouds, I just couldn't pass it up. Its going to be some fine eating and I can`t wait, gotta love sac-a-lait. Mini jig under a cork, anything dark with a chart/tail was the ticket.

Well, for me it's been slim pickins lately in Coyell Bay and up to the Amite. There's a little bluegill action in King George, but not often. A lot of people are saying it's got to do with Katrina, I don't know. All I do know is the fish are definitely out there, but they are finicky as all get out and I seldom get a good hard hitter, much less one to just break and run with my line. I got nightcrawlers, fresh and old shrimp, shiners, even some liver soaked in fish oils, and the three cats I caught in the last week were hittin' nightcrawlers and one hit the old shrimp. Now the wierd thing is after sittin' an hour or two with no hits or faint nibbles, two of the cats hit my line as soon as I threw it in at a new spot! I mean BAM and ran. Then nothin' again. Now there's plenty of awesome sights along the way like super old and beutiful cypress trees, even a small island of five or so, but I wish I could crack the combination to the lock thats on the fish! It seems they only want to hit in the evening about an hour or so before dark, and usually weak hits too. Maybe there's someone out there who can lend a little advice?

Yesterday Dr. Dan Brown, and his son Gabriel joined me on a windy, cold, and muddy water day. We left the marina around 630am and

began for clean water. When I say that every place in Lafitte had | | |
